Krochet Kids is a non-profit organization with a mission to 'empower people to rise above poverty', specifically in the developing country of Uganda. And they do this by employing a group of women to crochet hats that are sold in the United States.
Travis Hartanov, along with two good friends started crocheting in high school, making hats as a hobby. After various volunteer and mission trips abroad, the friends developed an awareness of the poverty that so many people live in, and were motivated to do something about it.
In the summer of 2007 they traveled to Uganda and laid the groundwork for their organization, training a group of women to crochet. The products are sent back to the United States and sold, providing an income and means of supporting the women and their families. Krochet kids challenges you to buy a hat, and change a life.
