Get excited for 2012's Houseboat Summer Camp on the River Delta in Stockton California. God worked in the lives of students in amazing ways last summer as we studied Daniel and his life SET APART from the world! The theme from last summer was "SET APART". This years theme will be "HERE & NOW". Teenagers live in a world that drives them to place all their focus on the future. But our call as Christ-followers is to live a life on mission with Him… Right here… Right now… "HERE & NOW" uses the life of Joshua to call your students to make a difference for Christ… today.
Each Houseboat holds 13 students, 2 Grace Fellowship staff members, and 3 Sonshine Ministry staff members. We're on the boat for 6 days and away from all civilization!! All students sleep on the top of the houseboats under the stars. So, make sure you bring sleeping bags and pillows. Leaders sleep on the top of the houseboats with the students as well. Girls sleep on the top half of the roof and boys sleep on the bottom half of the roof. Leaders sleep in the middle of both roofs. To get a better idea of the layout of the boat please watch this years promo video.
This trip is an awesome opportunity to bring friends for the first time. If you are currently a 5th grade student this will be your first trip with OVERFLOW JH. We have this trip at the beginning of the summer on purpose as a way to get students instantly plugged into the group. This trip bonds our group tremendously for the entire school year and will make great memories that are consistently talked about. Please make sure you're signing up for this trip and bring friends.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Are there ways to make this trip more cost affective? YES! You can save $25 by registering before July 13th 2011. You can save an automatic $20 by mailing in your deposit by check instead of registering online. Students can also sell admission tickets to our annual Talent Show Fundraiser for $10 a ticket. Students can sell as many tickets as they want. Every ticket they sell goes directly towards their personal trip. Students can participate in our Work Program and make $40. You may apply for a scholarship as well. Please don't make money the reason you can't attend this trip. We will do everything in our power to get the cost of this trip to the spot that's affordable for your family.
What is the Work Program & How Do I Apply? OVERFLOW JH has a fund that pays students $8.00 an hour to work for friends, family, neighbors, or the church as a vehicle to raise money. Students can work a maximum of 5 hours for $40. Please download the work program form from this webpage, fill it out, have it signed by the individual you did work for, turn it in to the OVERFLOW office, and get money deducted from you trip. It's easy and helps you serve others. This is a great way to easily cut off $40 from your trip.
How Do I Apply For A Scholarship - Download our scholarship application below. Families are eligible for 1 scholarship every 12 months. Complete the scholarship form completely and turn it in to the OVERFLOW office. You will need to disclose personal financial information, but it's confidential. A scholarship can fund up to 50% of the trips cost.
Do All Students Have to Sell Talent Show Fundraiser Tickets? - NO! In years past they've had to but this year we are not requiring students to do so. This year admission tickets will be $10 and students will be allowed to sell as many as they'd like. Whatever money they make through selling tickets will go straight towards the cost of their trip.
STORIES FROM HOUSEBOAT'S 2011 "SET APART"
The Overflow Jr. High ministry brought back more than just five bins of lost and found items from the Houseboat Summer Camp this year. In their own words, here is what our students experienced.
“At the beginning, I really didn’t know the point of the trip. Once I heard that the theme was “Set Apart,” I thought am I really living my life for Christ? Do I really live it to the fullest? By the end of the week, I rededicated my life to Christ.” —Hannah
“It was the best trip I’ve ever been on in my life. It was very life changing. I had one of the Sunshine staff, his name was Evan, and he showed me the way around Christ. I rededicated my life to God on the trip. I was very nervous going into Overflow for sixth grade, my first year, but the trip felt like it welcomed me into Overflow. I’m very grateful to have Chad and all the staff here. They are the most amazing people ever.” —Brian May
“At the beginning of the week, I remember not being that close with God. For devotions, I would always be like I’m not really good at this. I don’t really know what to do. So I was just kinda sitting around. All week I had heard all these stories about people just sitting on their knees and in tears praying to God. By the end of the week, when Chris, Erica, and Emma were all singing and sang the song “Worthy,” I remember crying to God, just crying out. It felt amazing to just be close with Him. And I also rededicated my life to God with Lizzi. She was really helpful and it meant a lot.” —Ashley Olson
“Before the houseboats trip, I really didn’t think you could have fun and combine fun with God. After, I realized that God himself is fun. He’s basically all the fun you need. On the trip, me and my brother really connected, and now, we’re a lot better brothers.” —Connor Dean
“The stars were so beautiful. I remember laying on top of the roof and thinking why do we have to lay out here in the cold? It’s freezing cold, why do we have to be outside? And then I realized. I looked up and when you’re down here, you can’t really see the stars as often; you can’t really see the beauty of nature. But when you looked up at the houseboats trip, you saw every single star out there. When you woke up in the morning, you woke up from the sun, not from your mother saying Get up! You would see a sunrise or sunset. I thought it was really cool to see that God made everything so special. To see everybody on the trip come closer to God and be more spiritual was great.” —Michaela Chandler
“This houseboat trip was my first so I was kind of nervous. During the trip, I got sick and called my parents. My brother Noah helped me out a lot and brought me water. It made me feel really good. I knew that my brother loved me, but I never knew he loved me so much. The trip really changed it. It also changed my relationship with God. I knew that God was God, but I never knew how much loved me. When I learned how much God loved me, I loved God a little more.” —Katie Giddings
I hope all of this information helps. Please register today or send me an email if you have more questions!
